Terms & Conditions

These terms govern your use of Babel (the "Service"), an AI conversation service in which you speak with "the Librarian". The Service is operated by babelon ("we", "us"). When you use the Service you are contracting with babelon.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or continuing to use the Service, you agree to these terms. If you use the Service for an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it; otherwise you confirm you are of legal age where you live.

2. Your account

Keep your sign-in details confidential and accurate. You are responsible for activity under your account.

3. Acceptable use

You must not misuse the Service. In particular you must not:

• use it for anything unlawful, fraudulent, or to send spam;
• infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
• generate illegal content, hate speech, harassment, deceptive impersonations or deepfakes, or malware;
• generate, request or distribute sexual content involving minors, non-consensual intimate imagery, or content that exploits or endangers anyone;
• use it to produce instructions for weapons or harm, to run scams or disinformation campaigns at scale, or for surveillance or profiling of individuals;
• rely on it for medical, legal, financial or other regulated professional decisions — the Librarian is not a professional adviser;
• attempt to bypass safety measures ("jailbreaking"), limits, or access controls;
• interfere with security, probe, scrape, reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the Service.

We enforce these rules with automated and human review and may refuse, filter or remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that break them.

4. AI content

You are responsible for your prompts, for having the rights to anything you submit, and for how you use the replies. Replies are generated by AI and the Librarian invents freely: they may be inaccurate or fictional and are not professional (legal, medical, financial or other) advice. Verify anything important.

As between you and us, you keep your rights in your inputs and may use the outputs, subject to these terms and applicable law. You grant us a limited licence to host and process your content solely to provide the Service. Rights holders can report infringing content via our contact page; we may remove it and suspend accounts that repeatedly infringe. We may filter, refuse or remove content and restrict accounts to keep the Service safe.

5. Our intellectual property

babelon owns the Service, including its software, design, documentation and branding. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service within your plan.

6. Plans, payment and subscriptions

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.

Payment, billing, renewal, taxes, cancellation and refunds are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. Pro renews monthly until cancelled. When you cancel, Pro features end immediately and your account returns to the Standard plan. See our Refund Policy.

7. Service level

We work to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" without implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

8. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access for material breach of these terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated or serious policy violations. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. When access ends, your conversations are deleted within a reasonable period.

9. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits or data), and our total liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury where the law does not allow it.

10. General

We may update these terms and will post the new version here. You may not assign these terms without our consent. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control.
